Don't Get Sick

I realize I have all sorts of posts about dealing with illness or surviving sick kids. Fitness momentum is hardly a priority when your body aches with fever or you have a sweaty sleeping child suctioned to your chest.

Prevention is the secret. If we only knew the secret. I do everything possible to prevent getting sick and I have no idea if it's one thing or the other that helps: Vitamins? Fish Oil? Green smoothies?

My latest is worth passing on to you, which was recommended to me by my sister-in-law. She swears by it and when my kids got their first cold the first week of school I decided to add it to my arsenal of cold prevention: Honey and cider vinegar.

I take a small swig of equal parts raw apple cider vinegar and honey (I go with local). Some people mix it up with water, but I just take a shot of it. I try to take a little every day but if my kids are sick I take a few shots throughout the day. Dare I say, I don't even mind the taste anymore.

I haven't been sick so far this school year. Coincidence? Maybe. My kids have been sick it seems every other week. They won't touch the stuff.

There might be a bonus side effect. I had a friend tell me her grandma drank it too and she lived well and healthy into her 90s. I also found this link on Livestrong about honey and vinegar home remedies that sites the benefits for relieving soreness and inflammation, too. I definitely need that.

I've decided it's a must-take supplement for fit moms. Hold your nose and drink up!
